Robert L. Gernon
Robert Lawrence Gernon (July 29, 1943 – March 30, 2005) was born in Sabetha, Nemaha County, Kansas.
He was a 1966 KU B-School major who studied law at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas graduating in 1969.
Within ten years he became a district judge in Kansas 22nd District. (1979–88).
Bob was also trial advocacy instructor at University of Kansas School of Law. His performance earned him appointments as a judge on the Kansas Court of Appeals, 1988–2003; and, Kansas Supreme Court Justice, 2003–2005.
Justice Gernon became a persistent community stewardship leader with a passion for ethical leadership practices. He also served as a coach, mentor and tutor to Sigma Nu fraternity chapter members in Lawrence, Kansas.
Bob championed the LEAD program. It remains unique among all collegiate Greek-letter organizations. It served as a framework for ongoing ''Emily Taylor Women's Resource Center'' (ETWRC) peer mentoring programs.〔(ETWRC Mission )〕
During 1990, Judge Gernon and Sharon Winslow Gernon were jointly awarded the Kansas University Alumni Association's (KUAA) ''Mildred Clodfelter Alumni Award'' ...
:This recognition program was created in 1987 to thank alumni and friends
:for "sustained volunteer service to the University at the local level." 〔(KUAA Awards )〕
In all probability Bob Gernon was the most popular member of the Kansas Appellate Courts in many years in addition to all of his other accomplishments, based in part on his gregariousness, his extreme affability and his subtle sense of humor.
